“Pets are humanizing. They remind us we have an obligation and responsibility to preserve and nurture and care for all life,” ~ James Cromwell
The Proprietress here. I couldn’t resist writing about how animals have begun to have a positive impact on this election. It all started with comments by you know who in July. As a childless cat lady who is proud of her choice, I was deeply offended by those remarks. I responded with my “Calling All Childless Cat Ladies” post and have since created several more images and written extensively about the role felines play in our lives:
The thing is, I have been roundly (though nicely) chastised for not including horses, dogs, llamas, goats, pigs, parrots, cows, and yes chickens in my illustrations and stories! Also for not removing the word "childless" so that everyone can feel included - LOL. You can see the evolution of my designs below. I’m still working on designs of goats, pigs, parrots, and cows.
Then the wonderful Joyce Vance started sharing her flock of chickens with her readers as a way to alleviate some of the angst we were all feeling. Naturally we fell in love.
The thing you have to know about Joyce’s chickens is that they are no ordinary fowls. She has Silkies, Cream Crested Legbars, and Welsummers who lay everything from white to blue to brown-speckled eggs. Reading about them has been an education in chickens but also a reminder to take time awy from the human drama to breathe, enjoy nature, and spend time with critters we love.
In Joyce’s latest installment, Chicken Adventures, we were treated to the tale of Esther who has been staying out all night with her rooster friend and has a clutch of eggs to incubate as a result. We are all waiting with baited breath to learn who the scoundrel is. It’s a regular chicken soap opera :-)
So in the spirit of collaboration and fairness, please let me know if you have either a particular animal you would like to see in a design or a story about any of the animals you see in my designs above. I’d love to share with my readers.
Hugs,
Jena
