“If you claim to stand for unity, you need to do more than just use the word. You cannot claim you stand for unity if you are pushing an agenda that deprives whole groups of Americans of basic freedoms.” - Kamala Harris
One of the things I love about Kamala Harris and Tim Walz is their focus on everyday Americans. The fact that we are everyday people doesn’t take away from the unique contributions we each can make to this country. That is the true wonder of America - our diversity makes us strong.
This song, “Everyday People,” recorded by Playing for Change, which features Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Keb' Mo’, Chad Smith, Frank Gehry, Paula Abdul, Forest Whittaker, Yo Yo Ma, Bernie Williams, Elizabeth Banks, Doc Shaw, Trombonne Shorty, Alfre Wodoard, Carla Dirkilov, and Misty Copeland says it all. Plus it’s just A LOT of fun to sing :-) The lyrics are below. Enjoy.
Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in
I am everyday people, yeah, yeah
There is a blue one who can't accept
The green one for living with
A fat one tryin' to be a skinny one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby-dooby-dooby
We got to live together
I am no better and neither are you
We're all the same, whatever we do
You love me, you hate me
You know me and then
You can't figure out the bag I'm in
I am everyday people
There is a long hair
That doesn't like the short hair
For being such a rich one
That will not help the poor one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on, scooby-dooby-dooby
We got to live together
There is a yellow one that won't
Accept the black one
That won't accept the red one
That won't accept the white one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and
Scooby-dooby-dooby
I am everyday people. - Sly Stone (Sylvester Stewart) Songwriter

Lovely post! So interesting how you used the song.
Gather up and come and see
Vote for the one who sets and keeps us free
The one who just lets us be who we are
Vote blue and raise the bar
A vote for me and you
As we share resources
And, quibble about discourses
Somethings just gotta be free
Reproductive rights and keeping the world safe, please
I enjoyed your lovely post. It was inspirational for me. Sent on to Twitter for all to see.
