“When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.” - Ruth Bader Ginsburg
I loved Ruth Bader Ginsburg - still do if truth be told - especially her assumption that, “women belong in all places where decisions are being made,” and her no nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is approach to the law. I was especially delighted by the way she used fashion, making her opinions and presence felt without words. I am referring, of course, to her dissent collars*.
In a November, 2020 article, Time Magazine described Ginsburg as both a “trailblazing feminist” and “fashion pioneer.” Click the image below to read the full piece.
The array of collars Justice Ginsburg acquired over the years is both creatively inspiring and a reminder that her legacy can and should live on through us. As I said in my recent post, Savage Voices, “It’s time women stopped waiting for men to do the ‘right thing,’ and started an all inclusive movement that both educates and empowers every woman within it. We belong to a sisterhood - regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity or sexual persuasion - and it’s time we started acting like it.”
Since writing that piece I’ve been pondering how best to use my own unique abilities to help bring that sisterhood together. Since crocheting an RBG dissent collar is not an option (I tried with embarrassing results), my thoughts turned to techniques used by other campaigns that I admire. So far, I’ve come up with four ideas. The first is a simple white tee with the words, “I Dissent!” emblazoned over the left breast pocket area. Second is a series of postcards with inspiring images and quotes. I will do a separate post in the days ahead about where to find, see, and order them along with ideas about how they might be used.
P.S. and Thank You
As a thank you for reading this far, I’m sending one of my first, full-color 7.1 x 5.5 postcards (see below) to the first 30 people who send me their names and addresses.
NOTE: This is not a gimmick. I will not ask you for money or use your information to spam you. It’s just a heartfelt thanks for reading along and being part of my community.
Send your name and physical address to: JenaBall at CritterKin dot com and if you are one of the first 30, I’ll let you know. Good luck!
*Most of you will know that to dissent means to disagree with the opinions of others. But the kind of dissent I’m talking about refers to the stance taken by an appellate judge or Supreme Court Justice who disagrees with an opinion reached by the majority of their colleagues and writes an official document explaining why they dissent.

I love Pink’s Irrelevant Video.
Hell to the yes, as they say. I dissent! Missing RBG. 💔
