Boy am I glad you are giving us the CAST OF CHARACTERS, Jena! So helpful! So colorful! So well-written. You follow in the footsteps of Will Shakespeare who always gave us a short note about the cast before he gave us his dialogue.
I’m so glad it works for you! The only other choice was to move everything to third person, but that would have put the narrator in the middle and readers at a distance. One of my goals to let readers experience firsthand how each person’s reality/focuses/ belief systems color how they see and interact with the world. A wise teacher of mine said everyone (even the bad guys) are doing the best they can with their limited abilities, wounds, and focuses. That doesn’t mean we allow bad people to hurt us, but it does help to explain some of the seemingly horrific people in the world. Which reminds me, I must add Ryan’s parents to the cast. Stay tuned :-)
