“Out beyond ideas of right and wrong, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” - Rumi
As you all know, I am featuring the work of wonderful musicians here on “Pass Along Songs.” This includes performers in virtual spaces where musicians perform as avatars. Second Life in particular has a vibrant and diverse community of live performers and one of my favorites is a fellow who goes by the name of Maximillion Kleene.
Max was kind enough to help me choose songs for this week’s theme - Love is Love: Celebrating PRIDE. He then performed those songs with his usual joie de vivre at my music venue in Second Life. Here is the poster I designed to advertise the event. And yes, that is Max’s avatar on the left and mine on the right.
Unfortunately, Max doesn’t record or share his music outside of virtual reality. But I can share his song list (see the bottom of this post) and his eloquent words at the start of the show:
“When we think about love we have to think about lifting the spirits of all people. Love is love, no matter the color, gender, religion or language.” - Max Kleene, Second Life performer
Finally, let’s begin a discussion about the importance of diversity. In my mind, it’s a logical extension of our discussion about love in “Imbalance - Part II.” Watch the amazing video below and then share your thoughts. Does it push any buttons? Where do you think we got our ideas about what is and isn’t acceptable love?
