“I believe in the power of pointing our cameras in the right place.” - Mike Rowe
This morning I was in search of some news that would take my mind off the ongoing political drama and help me feel better about my fellow human beings. I found it in on a YouTube channel hosted by Mike Rowe (known for his series Dirty Jobs on the Discovery channel) who was announcing the start of a new show entitled, People You Should Know.
Mike was his usual sarcastic self, pretending not to remember why he and his crew were hitting the road, calling the program, “The Making It Up As We Go Along Show,” and repeatedly asking, “So what are we doing?” before reverting to the modest Mike we all know and love. “Honestly,” he said as he buckled his seat belt, “it’s embarrassing how good I am at this.”
Mike and his team will be premiering People You Should Know (PYSK) on May 2nd. PYSK will tell the stories of people who are doing good things for people and communities - people who are, as Rowe puts it, “…neighbors you wish you had.” In the trailer (click HERE) you will meet:
STEVE HOLZ - A retired Army Sgt. who founded Black Horse Forge a non-profit that brings the art of blacksmithing to veterans, active-duty service members and first responders as a therapeutic outlet.
DANNY COMBS: A Grammy-winning musician who was inspired by his son Dylan to give up his music career and start TACT (Teaching the Autism Community Trades). TACT is an organization that educates and find jobs for those in the Autism community.
MS. MAZE: Founder of “Book Maze,” Araba Maze is a self-described radical street librarian who launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise the money she needed to transform a retired trolley bus into a FREE bookmobile for kids.
RUSTY DURHAM: Founder of “Rusty’s Bicycle Recycle,” Rusty and his volunteer crew repair donated bicycles and deliver them to partner charities who serve those without homes, including homeless veterans and foster children.
JUDALINE CASSIDY: Founder of Tools and Tiaras, who likes to say, “Jobs don't have genders!" Tools and Tiaras provides hands-on training in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and more with a goal of helpig young women excel in these fields while instilling moxie and grit.
I hope you enjoy as much as I did.
Hugs!
