Songs for Ukraine XI
“Singing, it’s like, it’s like loving somebody. It’s a supreme emotional and physical experience.” - Janis Joplin
After listening to our three performers deliver radically different but equally compelling performances last Saturday, I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of music to both evoke and allow us to purge emotions.
You will hear in Cylindrian’s set a deep and forceful statement about the situation in Ukraine and her own response to it.
Frogg’s sweet singing, on the other hand, was soothing and restful. I found myself leaning into the music, letting it wash over me like cool water.
Our final performer, Rasp, never performs a song the same way twice. But for all his quirky variations, he never forgets the underlying emotion in his songs. So when he ended his set by saying, “Hopefully we brought a little light to the Ukrainian folks who were listening today. We feel for you,” you know he meant it and was speaking for everyone who was there that day.
This is the gift - the power - of music. I hope you will continue to tune in each Saturday and consider adding your voice to the music bridge we’re creating. You can learn more about how to do that here: https://www.braidedlives.com/songs4ukraine-chain
Finally, please consider supporting “Songs for Ukraine” with a donation. This link will tell you all you need to know about the dream and what we’re doing with the funds: https://gofund.me/26920e97
