Many of you will remember my March 22nd post about Yuliia Paievska (nicknamed Taira), a Ukrainian medic who used a body camera to record 256 gigabytes of her team's efforts over two weeks to save the wounded, including Russian as well as Ukrainian soldiers. She transferred the clips to an Associated Press team, one of whom fled with the footage in a tampon on March 15th. Taira was later captured by Russian troops and has been a POW for three months.
Today President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that she had been released and was heading home. “I am grateful to everyone who was involved in efforts to free Taira,” he said. “She is already at home. Ukraine will continue to work for the release of all its citizens.”
This excellent article by Stars and Stripes will give you details, but I just wanted to share the good news: https://www.stripes.com/theaters/europe/2022-06-18/russia-frees-captive-medic-witnessed-mariupol-horror-6385523.html
Your happiest announcement ever, Jena!!!
