My companione animals have had varying reactions to my music. practice - My dog Powder loved me playing and would come lay down, and when I hit the right notes, she'd sometimes howl along for a bit. She also enjoyed band practice, electric guitars, drums, and not particularly skillful singing. Often, I would practice, just for her.

My cat Harvey puts my music into the same category as the vacuum cleaner: I signal towards an immediate and speedy exit into the backyard the moment she sees me pick up the instrument. Buddy, my friend John's dog who stays with me frequently is largely indifferent.

Now I wonder how my fish and hermit crab feel about music, but I have no observations that give me any clues on that. Nobody is frantically darting and hiding, so I take that as encouragement.

Hah! If you ever figure out how best to play for your aquatic family let me know.

I think Powder had good taste :-)

What has intrigued me from the start about Plumes’ visits is the great variety of animals he’s sung for. I suspect their positive reactions have as much to do with his kind and curious heart. He genuinely enjoys their company (even though they freak him out occasionally) and they respond to that.
