“No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else.” - Hugh Jackman (TGS)
The song I’ve chosen to pass along to you as we begin our music odyssey together deals with a subject that’s become a passion for me – daring to discover and celebrate our differences.
The song is, “This is Me,” by Benj Pasek and Justin Pau. It was written as the anthem for the film, “The Greatest Showman.” This version of the song was recorded during a practice session in which Keala Settle was asked to sing the lead for the first time. As you will see, she had no desire to take on the role and was agonizingly uncomfortable at the start. The performance is rough, uneven, and at times over the top. But if you watch the faces of the musicians singing and playing with her and the look on Hugh Jackman’s face as Settle reaches out to take his hand, you will see something extraordinary unfold. Let’s have a listen:
So what do you think/feel?
Was there one part of the performance you loved - one part you hated?
What did you think of the song itself – the lyrics, the message, the music?
Have you ever been in a similar position where you were asked to do something totally outside your comfort zone? Stories, please!

I would comment but I am still crying. That was a beautiful transformation. And now I must go blow my nose.
