“I wish someone would have told me that this darkness comes and goes…I can't teach you how to fly. But I can show you how to live like your life is on the line.” - Pink, “All I Know”
There is a festering wound within the American psyche. There are plenty of signs - racism, misogyny, income inequality, lack of healthcare, the way we teach our children to compete, compare, and measure their worth by how they perform on tests, our disregard for the health of the planet and the creatures we share it with. But those are just symptoms. There is something more - something that we have allowed to spiral out of balance and desperately need to be correct.
I believe the imbalance is a result of disconnecting from our emotional roots and our overemphasis on intellect and ego. The goal of life is not to acquire wealth, power, or "things." It is to know and love ourselves - to stand in our truth and be examples for others to follow; to love ourselves so well that we can celebrate others without feeling jealous or threatened; to reach the end of our lives and say, "I was the best me I could be, and I have no regrets."
I chose this song, “All I Know So Far” by Pink because it captures the conflicts, self-doubts, and fears we all struggle with as we live our way towards wisdom and understanding. So let’s talk about how we can “spit into the wind” and let the walls crack so the light can shine in.
