Many musicians have been kind enough to send me original songs they've written since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. As the brutal diaspora and genocide continue, I’ve become more and more convinced that this is a turning point for humanity. We must find a way to help our children deal with the trauma of global conflicts and grow into kind, creative, and competent adults who won’t start wars in the future.
I’ve spent a lot of time over the past 14 years pondering how we came to have so many cruel, morally bankrupt, and emotionally damaged people in power. These are people who see nothing wrong with destroying natural resources, dropping bombs on children, and testing nuclear weapons. I’ve concluded that they are a symptom of a larger issue that we all must work to address - the failure to ensure that our children develop emotional intelligence as well as literacy skills.
This, of course, is the goal of Song Flight, and as I prepare to launch the first pilot (the tentative date is January 16th) I’ve been pondering ways to raise the funds to get the help that will be required to make it happen. One solution, suggested by a friend who makes his living creating, playing, and helping others fine-tune their music, was to create a compilation of the songs that have been donated and sell it to supporters.
Several musicians have already graciously offered to let me use their songs, and I will be reaching out to get permission (or not) from others. But I would like to ask you all to help me as well.
If you know a musician who might be interested in contributing a song, please reach out to them or me. My email is JenaBall@CritterKin.com
Please share the Song Flight website where I’ve been collecting and sharing descriptions of the project, updates, and presentations I’ve been making at conferences and meetings.
